With sketches dating back to 2023 Scotch Roman visually accompanies an extensive research in the field of the historical development of the Cyrillic script, while questioning the graphic evolution of letterforms. Includes two Cyrillic conventions and one historical stylistic set. The assignment to design a Scotch Roman was based on Gerard Unger’s methodology at Reading University and the brief history of his unpublished typeface, called Reader. Scotch Romans weren’t quite popular in Cyrillic world, which turned into a great possibility to re-introduce the multiple Cyrillic conventions, or even develop a historical stylistic set, that explores the dramatic history of Cyrillic’s lowercase development, and all that in an unusual typographic style. Story continues with upcoming updates (..)
