Snaga is a neo-grotesque by Lettersoup. The foundry’s extensive, in-depth examination of existing examples of the Swiss typographic style determined there was room for a contemporary rational sans specifically tailored for body copy. The concept of the typeface focuses on creating as much dynamics as possible, while simultaneously getting the characters’ spacing as close as possible to the counters in order to improve Snaga’s readability in small sizes.

During Snaga’s development, the foundry collaborated closely with design studios, what led to the creation of an optical size axis for banners and titles, controlling the tightness of the spacing and the level of kerning. That allows users to further fine-tune the typeface to achieve an equal grey value while compensating for the varying appearances of scripts while working with multiscript. Snaga offers three pre-defined static subfamilies – Text, Display, and Banner.

Besides the Latin character set, Snaga supports Cyrillic and Greek, developed in collaboration with native-speaking designers. A lot of attention went to drawing distinctive Bulgarian Cyrillic alternates, included in the typeface as “Round Cyrillic” stylistic set.
