Information
Grimys Antiqua is a Renaissance-inspired serif typeface defined by its humanist structure and attention to detail. The typeface balances the gestural elegance of its calligraphic heritage with a crisp, contemporary precision, evident in its sharply constructed serifs, clean terminals, and expressive Italics. Particularly noteworthy is the horizontal emphasis within its counterforms, which visually anchors text blocks while enhancing legibility at small sizes — an advantage particularly relevant in extended reading — without compromising aesthetic refinement.

Grimys Antiqua currently consists of 9 weights and includes over 600 glyphs per style, with the first two — Regular and Italic, set for a official release in 2026. Originating from sketches as early as 2019, the typeface challenges conventional standards in Cyrillic typography by adopting the so-called “humanistic” Cyrillic lowercase as its primary character set, rather than treating it as a secondary, localized form. Humanistic Cyrillic is widely regarded by type designers as an evolutionary step in the development of the Cyrillic script, respectfully challenging the status quo, while traditional, “standardized” Cyrillic is increasingly seen as historical. Embracing this approach enhances multiscript consistency and overall legibility, positioning Grimys Antiqua as both a scholarly and contemporary solution for complex text settings.
